Damn Fine Tea

Ah, the weekend is near! I love these tea tins designed by Aesthetic Apparatus for Andrews & Dunham teas. They hit just the right mix of hand-lettering, funky colors and a little bit of old-school charm. [via Lovely Package]|DBK

Time Travel

Geez, this February really makes me want to escape to Mexico until spring. Well, since I can't go anywhere for a while, I'll keep dreaming of traveling in style with the funky, retro inspired bags, tags and cases at Flight 001.|DBK

DC Design Happenings

There are a couple of design-related events happening in DC next week that are definitely worth checking out:

On Monday, Februrary 23, Matthew Carter is speaking at the Corcoran about his work as a type designer. With over 50 years in the business, Carter is internationally recognized. Two of his most famous typefaces are the Microsoft screen fonts Verdana and Georgia (DBK is set in Georgia, just to note), which are used by millions of people. It should be an inspiring and interesting lecture. I believe this event is sold out, but a waiting list will start at 6:30pm the night of the event. More information about Matthew Carter and the event can be found on the Corcoran's website.

The next great design lecture is happening later the same week. On Thursday, February 26, AIGA DC, in partnership with AIGA Baltimore, presents Patrick Coyne, editor and designer of Communication Arts magazine. Coyne will speak about his experience at CA, the history and philosophy of the magazine, it’s renowned competitions, and their process for choosing featured creative professionals to profile. He will also showcase a selection of award-winning design and advertising projects produced on limited budgets and discuss the future of creativity in the post-information age. There are still tickets left for this event, get yours now|DBK

Remember When We Used to Draw?

The Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington (ADCMW) asked designer Carolyn Sewell to design a thank you gift for all of its members that says "remember when we used to draw?" The result: a large, customizable and functional hand-drawn sketchbook. You lucky members! If you want a sketchbook of your very own, become a member at adcmw.org. [Many thanks to Carolyn S. for the photos] |DBK

Talk About Aromatherapy

Cannes-based company Demèche has a new scented candle collection inspired by the seven deadly sins—gluttony, lust, pride, greed, sloth, anger and envy (I wonder what sloth smells like). They would be an interesting addition to a dinner party, to say the least. [via Lovely Package] |DBK
